Primary Mediums & Subject Matter

Paintings and Prints:

  • Cityscapes and urban architecture, primarily of Europe and North America.

  • Northern California wilderness, especially redwood and mountain landscapes, and small town landscapes.

  • Mediterranean (especially ancient) architecture.

  • Canadian: Old Montréal and Québec City.

Wood Burning/Pyrography:

  • Celtic designs primarily from the Book of Kells.

Background
         Jessica Skropanic began her formal art studies at the prestigious School for the Creative and Performing Arts. After a year she won her first art award at the Summer Arts Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio for a wood bloc
k print still life. She went on to win several other art awards including first placement in the annual Cincinnati Art's Consortium's Youth Art Competition. She was invited to join the four-member Cincinnati Traveling Arts Troup and to help with art criticism for the school's main gallery from 1980-1984. She also served as a guest instructor for the Cincinnati Arts Consortium. Jessica Skropanic graduated in 1984 from the school of the arts and went on to study Cultural Anthropology and Sociology at university. She moved to California and obtained her B.A. and M.A. at California State University, Humboldt, during which she continued to show and sell her work. Her paintings and pastels were featured in three books, including a collection of Native American folk stories.

         After university, Ms. Skropanic took a position teaching Social Science in Redding, California, her permanent residence. She has done graphic arts and web design and served on her university's Fine Arts Committee from 1996-1998 and again from 2002-2005. She has traveled (and painted) in Croatia, Canada, Italy, Slovenia, Mexico, Bermuda, France, Tunisia, Malta, and Spain. She is a member of the Shasta County Arts Council and has w
orked for the Redding Museum of Art and History. She spends about a month each year in New York and abroad and enjoys living and painting in the mountains of Northern California.
